Don Simpson is the creator of Image Comics’ 25th Anniversary Splitting Image 80-Page Giant (featuring the normalman vs. Megaton Man Special with Jim Valentino), a satirical account of the founding of America’s third-largest comics publisher—debuting for the first time in Pittsburgh at this show! Don is best known as the creator of Megaton Man and Bizarre Heroes, a 37-issue tragicomic universe, and he’s completed a new graphic novel, Megaton Man: Return to Megatropolis, coming next year!
In August 2017, Dover Graphic Novels will release a 352-page hardcover collection of Don’s 1980s science fiction saga Border Worlds, complete with a new chapter, featuring a scholarly afterward by Swamp Thing and 1963 legend Stephen Bissette! Highlights of Don’s 30-plus year career includes the underground classics Wendy Whitebread, Undercover Slut and Forbidden Frankenstein (created under the pseudonym Anton Drek), as well as freelancing for nearly every major publisher—DC (Wasteland), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel (She-Hulk), Harvey Pekar’s American Splendor—and many more. Don has collaborated with Alan Moore (“In Pictopia,” recently anthologized in Brighter Than You Think from Critical Comics), and illustrated Al Franken’s 2003 bestseller Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. Don has taught cartooning for years in the Pittsburgh area, and earned a PhD in art and architectural history from Pitt in 2013. Don has been a fixture at New Dimension Comics shows since the twentieth century, so catch up and say hello to a living Pittsburgh legend!
